A Spooky Castle Under the Full Moon, with a Witch on a Broom
A standing scene made of 3 mm poplar plywood: a big moon with bats and a flying witch, a castle with towers in front of it, a bare tree and a fence. The pieces stand one behind the other, so the scene has real 3D depth. We ship it unpainted and unglued – you color each piece separately and then easily glue them together with Herkules or Duvilax.
Why It Comes in Pieces
Easy to Color and Assemble
If the scene came glued together, you'd have to paint the moon in a narrow gap behind the castle and the tree around the towers. This way, each piece has free edges on all sides. You can sweep a wide brush across the moon without getting yellow on the castle.
And once the scene is glued together, the layers create a depth that a flat picture doesn't have. The castle really stands in front of the moon.
Step-by-Step Instructions
How to Do It
As with most of our products: paint first, then glue.
1
Lay out the pieces side by side. Put down newspaper and arrange the pieces the way they'll stand – you'll see right away what goes in front and what goes in back.
2
Start with the moon. It's the largest piece, and whatever stands in front of it will stand out most against it. A yellow full moon, or a gray, misty night? You'll find both in our photos.
3
Then the castle, tree, fence and base. Leave the witch for last and use a thin brush on her. The broom and the tree branches are the thinnest parts – don't press on them. Give watercolors fifteen minutes to dry; acrylics, better half an hour.
4
Once everything is dry, glue it together. Herkules or Duvilax is enough – just apply a thin layer. If glue oozes out, wipe it off with a slightly damp cloth – it turns clear when dry.
Three Ideas for Using It
Where to Put the Scene
At 22 cm wide, it's the centerpiece of your decor, not just an accent.
For the Windowsill
The wide base board lets the scene stand on its own.
For a Dresser or Shelf
A few small pumpkins or dried leaves around it, and the Halloween corner is done.
Crafting for Two
The pieces can be divided up. One person paints the castle, another the moon and the tree, and at the end you glue it all together.

Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the scene come glued together?
No, we ship it as individual pieces. You color each one separately and glue them together only once they're dry. That way you can reach every edge with a brush, and the colors don't rub off between the pieces.
Which glue should I use?
Herkules or Duvilax – both hold reliably on wood and dry clear. A small bottle of Herkules is more than enough for one scene. Duvilax pays off when you're gluing several pieces, at preschool for example.
Won't the witch or the branches break?
Not with normal painting. But the broom and the tree branches are the thinnest parts, so don't press on them with the brush, and carry the finished scene by the base.
Is it suitable for preschool or a club?
Yes, plan on one piece per child. Painting takes longer than with small figures, so it's a good idea to split it into two parts – paint on the first day, glue on the second. We issue invoices with payment terms to preschools, schools, municipalities and organizations – just enter the organization's name and its registration or tax ID number when you order.
