A Mustache Across Half the Face and a Hat Curled into a Hook
The gnome arrives unpainted, made of poplar plywood. The body is one solid piece with engraved lines – the face with eyes, the beard, hands and feet are already outlined, and the hat has polka dots. The gnome, a big mustache, pockets, little feet and a leaf base that the gnome slots into come separately.
How It Differs from Our Other Gnomes
This One Will Be Watching You
Most of our gnomes have their faces hidden under a hat and beard. This one has engraved eyes and eyebrows, so it has an expression before you even reach for a brush. Color then gives it a mood – warm shades make it a good-natured fellow, dark ones a bit of a grump.
The mustache is glued on top and sticks out past the body on both sides. That's exactly what turns a flat figure into something with depth and a 3D effect.
Step-by-Step Instructions
How to Do It
It's easier than it looks. Just please read the first step before you reach for the glue.
1
Paint before you start assembling. Lay the pieces out on newspaper and color them one by one. Once the mustache is glued on, you can't get a brush under it.
2
Do the polka dots on the hat last. First paint the whole hat in one color, let it dry and only then color the circles. If you did it the other way around, the base color would blend them together.
3
Glue on the mustache and small pieces. A drop of Herkules on each joint is enough. If it spreads, no problem – wipe it with a slightly damp cloth, and a thin layer turns clear anyway.
4
Slide the gnome into the leaf. The stand has two grooves and the gnome has two pegs, so they fit together. For a firmer joint, we recommend a drop of Herkules.

Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
You have several 15 cm gnomes on a leaf. How can I tell them apart?
This one has a curled polka-dot hat, an engraved face with eyes and a big mustache that's glued on top. The forest gnome has a pointed hat with three leaves and a face hidden under a beard. The gnome with a wavy hat is the simplest – it has only three pieces.
Do I have to draw in the eyes and face?
No need. The eyes and eyebrows are engraved into the wood, so the face has an expression on its own. Just color the cheeks and nose – the rest is already done. If you like, you can outline the eyes with a black fineliner, but it isn't necessary.
Should I paint first or assemble first?
Definitely paint first. The mustache is glued onto the face, so once it's on, you can't get a brush under it. Color everything separately, let it dry and only then assemble.
How do I color the polka dots on the hat so they don't blend together?
First paint the whole hat in one color and let it dry completely. Only then drip a different color into the circles. Acrylic holds best; watercolors bleed into a damp surface, so be careful.
Is it suitable for preschool or a club?
Yes, just plan on one piece per child. The pre-engraved lines are handy in a group – kids don't have to come up with anything, and they all finish at about the same time. We issue invoices with payment terms to preschools, schools, municipalities and organizations – just enter the organization's name and its registration or tax ID number when you order.
