We supply the leaves unpainted and unsanded; they color well with watercolors, tempera and acrylics. Size 75 x 76 mm – even a preschooler can color it with ease. The leaves are made by us in the Czech Republic from 3 mm poplar plywood.

How Many Packs Should I Order for the Whole Class?

We offer a large pack of 10 and single pieces. For a typical class of 25 kids, plan on 2 packs of 10 and 5 single pieces. However, we recommend buying more so every child has several leaves to color (in case one doesn't turn out). The activity takes about 30 to 45 minutes, including drying time.

Three Ideas to Get Started

What Can You Make with the Leaves?

A beautifully colored leaf is a base you can use in at least three ways. You can manage each of them in one afternoon.

A Window Decoration

Drill a small hole in the leaf, thread the string through and hang it on a branch or a tension rod. Instead of drilling, you can also attach the string with a hot glue gun.

A Door Wreath

Use a hot glue gun to attach the colored leaves to a straw or foam wreath form and add rose hips or other materials suitable for finishing a fall wreath.

Name Tags and Garlands

Feel free to write the child's name on the leaf – it makes an original name tag for the preschool coat room or a garland for the classroom.

Step-by-Step Instructions

From Plain Wood to a Beautiful Decoration

The whole thing takes about three quarters of an hour, including drying time. You don't need a workshop or any special experience.

Prepare your workspace. Use newspaper or a tablecloth. The leaves are unsanded, but don't worry – there's no risk of splinters.

Color it. Let watercolors dry for about 15 minutes, acrylic paints for 30 minutes. For a richer shade, apply two thin coats instead of one thick one. Pro tip: Watercolors blend into each other beautifully – just use more water.

Add decorations. Draw in the veins with a black fineliner, add glitter, use decoupage or prints of real leaves.

Seal it. If the decoration is going outside or on a door, coat it with clear varnish – it protects the paint from moisture and sun.

No. We ship the wooden leaves unpainted and untreated – precisely so kids can color them however they like. The wood is unsanded, yet the paint goes on smoothly without snagging.

What can I color them with?

Watercolors, tempera, acrylics, markers and colored pencils all work. Acrylics have the best coverage; for preschoolers, watercolors are the most practical – they wash off hands and tables easily and combine beautifully.

From what age is it suitable?
