A cauldron with a skull and a hand sticking out, made of 3 mm poplar plywood. The hanging hole is in the palm of the claw, and a second hole is at the bottom of the cauldron. We ship it unpainted and in one piece – nothing to glue or assemble. Available individually or in a pack of five.
For Bigger Spooks
When Smiling Pumpkins Aren't Enough Anymore
Schoolkids often shrug off a cute pumpkin. A claw climbing out of a cauldron is in a different league – this is a decoration even an older sibling will want to look at.
And painting here is a game of contrasts: a toxic-green hand, a black cauldron, an orange potion bubbling over the rim. The bolder the colors, the spookier the result.
Step-by-Step Instructions
How to Do It
Nothing needs gluing here, so it's just painting and hanging.
1
Start with the light colors. Lay down newspaper and first color the hand and the potion at the rim of the cauldron. Light colors always go first; you can then easily bring the dark ones right up to them.
2
Then the black cauldron. Carefully paint around the skull and leave it light – it will stand out nicely against the dark cauldron. Give watercolors fifteen minutes to dry; acrylics, better half an hour.
3
Be careful with the fingers. The claw's long fingers are the thinnest part. Don't press on them with the brush, and pick up the hanging decoration by the cauldron. If the black runs onto the green, let it dry and paint over it with green again, ideally with acrylic.
4
Thread and hang. Thread jute twine through the hole in the palm and hang the claw on a door handle or knob.
Three Ideas for Using It
Where to Hang the Claw
It's small, so it fits even where a large decoration wouldn't.
For a Cabinet Knob
For the kitchen counter or a dresser. Whoever opens the door gets a greeting from the claw.
For the Kids' Room Door
As a warning to uninvited visitors. Instead of a “Keep Out” sign.
A Garland of Five Cauldrons
A pack of five makes a garland for a Halloween party. Each potion can be a different color.

Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Is string for hanging included in the pack?
No, string is not included in the pack. Both jute twine and thin fishing line fit through the hole in the palm.
Won't the claw's fingers break?
Not with normal painting. But the fingers are the thinnest part, so really don't press on them with the brush, and pick up the hanging decoration by the cauldron.
How do I get that toxic green?
First paint the hand yellow, and while it's still wet, add green from the wrist. The colors blend into a gradient on their own, just like in the photo. It works best with watercolors.
Is it suitable for preschool or a club?
Yes – especially for after-school clubs or elementary school, where pumpkins alone aren't enough anymore. Nothing needs gluing, so the activity fits into one hour. For a class of 25 kids, plan on five packs of five. We issue invoices with payment terms to preschools, schools, municipalities and organizations – just enter the organization's name and its registration or tax ID number when you order.
